Random Olympic Post

The Olympics are finally here!!!  I really enjoy the Olympics and I’m really excited that it’s in London because that was the most I’ve enjoyed an opening ceremony since… ever.  Musical montage – awesome (like really, seriously awesome).  Special effects – great.  British accent – excellent, as always.  Story line – good (I loved all the classic bad guys from British literature).  Voldemort vs. Mary Poppins – seriously awesome.  Commentary – not so much awesome there (it was just too much).

The only thing that upsets me about the Olympics being in London is the time difference.  Everything I want to watch is on at like 2am.  Not cool.  Good thing I have a DVR, now if only I could stay off the internet…

Update @ 10:00 pm EST: Even though the parade of nations is fairly boring, I’m digging the music, and I love seeing what all the different countries are wearing (though I’m sure, as always, the US will disappoint in their choice of outfit).

Update @ 11:00 pm EST: Called it!  Another disappointing outfit.  And it’s by Ralph Lauren!  With Ralph Lauren designing you’d think they would look good.

Update @ 11:45 pm EST: Coolest.  Olympic.  Cauldron.  Ever.

I love the Olympics too!!! I’m in full Olympic Hibernation mode from now until it’s over and I can’t wait!
    – The Olympic torch! Gorgeous! I loved it! How all the leaves rose up…beautiful! Probably my favorite EVER!
    – The Parade of Nations is one of my favorite parts because I love seeing all the nations that come with only 5 or 3 or even just 1 athlete! I can’t image how proud they must feel to know that they are not only at the Olympics but that if it wasn’t for them their home country wouldn’t even be recognized! But no, because they are there their country gets its own flag on that hill, gets its own bowl thing (although I’m not sure what that is for) and they get their name said allowed in front of all those people. Seriously, medal or no medal that has to be the proudest moment of their lives!
    – I think my other favorite part was seeing Kenneth Branagh read from The Tempest! I have a mad crush on him!

I loved the whole thing. Seriously the best one ever. I always feel bad that the announcers are always like “(country’s name) isn’t going to medal” to the ones that only have a few particpates because it’s so condescending. Just to go and to be able to participate for them is amazing, and a lot of them have to pay for it/ raise the money themselves.

Did you realize that I just wrote a sentence in that comment that literally could have been spelled…”because they’re there, their country…” — that’s awesome!

I haven’t watched the olympics at all… you’ll have to fill me in on what I miss so that I can continue to follow pop culture references on my sitcoms.

Okay, I feel horrible because I am SOOO behind on reading your blog! I check my google reader every day (well, not the past couple of days because I’ve been busy, but normally I check it every day) and I do read a lot of the posts but I save the ones I want to comment on. So I had like 14 posts of yours saved! Yikes! So I’m very sorry that I haven’t commented lately. Hopefully I’ll be able to stay caught up after this!

Anyway, I really enjoyed the opening ceremonies! I love how they had the arena looking like a English countryside at first and then they tore it all away for the industrial revolution! And I liked the Voldemort part, though I wish it had lasted a tad longer, and I’m sorry but Mary Poppins could NOT defeat Voldy, no matter how many spoonfuls of sugar she threw at him. ;)

I stopped watching the opening ceremonies sometime around when the countries starting with B came in… It’s very boring to me! So I had to look up the cauldron and the US outfits. That cauldron was AWESOME! And yes, horrible outfits for the US in the Parade of Nations. Dumb. ;)
