What happened to phone etiquette?
This has been a slightly crazy week at work, and I’ve absolutely had enough of rude people! I have no thoughts on books this week because all my thoughts revolve around the crazy and annoying things that have happened at work this week!
When did it become ok to not say “goodbye” when your talking to someone on the phone? Especially in a business context? Over the last few weeks I can’t even tell you how many people I’ve talked to on the phone that just hang up when they’re done talking. You call with a question, I answer, you ask another question, I answer… then click! Apparently we’re done talking. Thanks for letting me know.
Other phone etiquette things I hate:
Ringback tones – seriously, no one likes whatever song your playing. No one. And even if, by some miracle, I did like it, I don’t want it blasted in my ear.
Calling the cable company (phone company, whomever) and having to punch in my phone number, my customer number, the first part of my address and then finally getting to talk to a real, live person, and the first thing they ask me is for my phone number… this is why I just keep pressing zero when I make these kind of calls.
People who call back unknown numbers who don’t leave a message. As soon as I answer they say “uh yeah, you called me.” I call a lot of people, tell me who you are. Better yet, if I didn’t leave a message, why are you calling me back? If it was important I would have left a message. I don’t know about y’all, but unless an unknown number calls me time and time again, I don’t call that number back if they don’t leave a message.
What are your thoughts on phone etiquette?
