Looking Ahead to 2013: Blogging Goals

December 28, 2012 Year in Review 16

What the future will hold…

2013 will be quite a different year from 2012. In the spring I’ll be taking a 5 month long certification course that I know is going to take up a lot of my time (and energy). I’d like to think I’ll be able to read a book a week, but I’m not sure that’s going to be a possibility, it’ll all depend on the time I have to put into this course. During these early months I’ll also be blogging less and probably commenting less. I have the opportunity to both blog and comment while at work so as long as work isn’t too crazy I should be able to keep up with commenting, as well as write my blog posts.

2013 Blogging Goals

1. Relax!

With the exception of the week right after BEA I’ve kept up with 2 reviews a week and 3 other posts. I know there is no way I can do this in the spring, I’d like to do 1 review a week but if I don’t get one in I’m not going to freak out about it. It’s ok.

2. Post my reviews to Goodreads

I am absolutely terrible at this! I’m usually ahead in reviews and I don’t post them on Goodreads until after I post them on my blog which means that I forget. I think to make it easier I’m going to make a point of writing a few thoughts on the book at the same time that I finished it.

3. Strive for a 50/50 balance

I’d like to read 50/50 YA/Adult books but since I’ll be reading less in the beginning of the year I’m sure it’ll be heavier on the YA books. I know I definitely want to read a 50/50 balance of series/standalones. While I enjoy series books, sometimes I just want to have a real ending when I finish a book.

4. The Challenges

I’m participating in 4 challenges this year, but I’m not going to freak out if I don’t finish them (cause really, I didn’t finish most of them this year).

Goodreads Challenge – 60 books
The A to Z Reading Challenge (I’m hosting this one. Check it out here!)
The Christopher Pike Reading Challenge
What’s in a Name 6 Challenge

Depending on how the year goes odds are not in my favor of success in all the challenges, but again, I’m ok with that. The fun is in trying to meet the Challenge.

What are some of your goals for 2013?

Kimberly

I’m big on challenges but this year I’m going simple (so far)… I want to read 75 books for the Goodreads challenge, and I’m linked up to the Standalone Reading Challenge, Debut Author Challenge and Eclectic Reader Challenge. I might join more in the future, we will see! :) My biggest goal for the year is to get ahead of myself in reviews – I’m the opposite of you, I came to blogging from Goodreads, so I post as I finish…but I’d like to get a couple books ahead.

I started with goodreads first too, but I like them on my blog first and I try to stay ahead with reviews so then I end up forgetting to go back and put them up. I’ll be better though!

Good Luck with all those challenges!

Relax is very important! I need to do that.

I was trying to get 10 reviews up a week and 4 other posts, but that’s like insane and I can’t read that much. I’m going to try to post a review every day, but, if I can’t make one, I really don’t think anyone’s going to judge me. I need to chill out. We all have our own pace, and we do this for fun, so it’s ridiculous to stress about our hobbies.

I have a system whereby I add my review to GR when I update my links in the review listing. I usually don’t forget.

Reading more adult is a good idea, though I think I’m doing sort of okay on that.

Oooh, you’re hosting A to Z! I might do that, but X is impossible. Sigh.

I think your crazy! ;) I’m envious of all that you manage to read. I can only wish.

Yeah see… I don’t update my links for my review listing either so… yeah.

I’m going to work on suggestions for X books, but I already have mine all planned out XVI. I’ve been saving it for the year that I can actually finish!

I may have to steal that graphic, Kim!!

I think you’re making good goals for yourself, and just know that I can always post a guest review or something if you find yourself stressing out that you haven’t had time to post anything.

      What’s mine is yours!

I think I’m ok, with doing only 1 review a week I have reviews scheduled through January already and I’m reading the NetGalley ones for February and I’m going to spend a good portion of next week reading so I think I’ll be set through Marchish. At least, that’s what I’m hoping for!

I need to have less guilt and stress about not being able to constantly keep up with blogging but it’s hard. I wish you luck. These are all great goals.

Great goals! I’m going to work on relaxing next year too, as I put way too much pressure on myself to post more. Now I’m going to try and post 3 times a week. If I post more or less, so be it. Good luck with your certification course!

Adding reviews to Goodreads & Amazon is one of my goals this year as well.

I’m only doing one challenge publicly but by the end of the year, I’m sure I’ll have completed a handful. I don’t want to commit to those handful though because I don’t want to review every book that I read. So…yeah…

    Good luck with your goals!
