BB New Years Challenge * Worst Book of 2013

January 5, 2014 BB New Years Challenge 7

newyearschallengeParajunkee is hosting a Book Blogger New Year’s Challenge and it’s just what I need to get in back in the swing of things!

There is a new topic each day for the first 14 days of 2014. You can read all about it here and I hope you join in the fun!

Day 5: Worst Book of 2013

I only read a few books this year that I would consider bad, but it’s easy to pick the book at the top of this list.

GabrielFor my bookclub’s Naughty November pick we read Gabriel’s Inferno. It had a pretty high rating on Goodreads and I love contemporary romance books so I figured at the very least it would be ok. I couldn’t have been more wrong. There was just so much wrong with it that I can’t even decide where to begin. Characters were annoying, plot moved at a snails pace and – I’m not kidding here – there was not only just one sex scene (at the end of the book!) but there wasn’t even any sexual tension!

With all that said though I will say that this book led to one of the most fun book club discussions we’ve ever had!

Haha, sex without chemistry. It’s like the author said, “Guys…take off your clothes. I know you don’t want to, but we have to have at least one sex scene to market this book as a romance.”

A few of my friends now have read Gone Girl and several of us had the same reaction to the book. It is a marvelously written novel, but we love to dissect and rant and rave how it should have end if it was a perfect world! Those are some of the best discussions. :)

Can’t stand a slow moving plot, as I just want to reach through the pages and throttle the characters! Totally understand why you didn’t like this one, but would have loved to have been a fly on the wall to listen to your bookclub’s discussion! *L*
