Blog Hop: Series Covers

Blog Hop 14

Book Blogger Hop

Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Jen at Crazy-For-Books. She’s currently on hiatus so this weeks Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Steph at The Fake Steph Dot Com.

Is there a book series that you’re not totally into, but still keep buying new releases because you love the covers?

No, not really. I’ve bought books in a series that I haven’t read yet, but if I stopped reading the series I don’t buy the books.

Blog Hop: Favorite Thing About Blogging & TGIF: School Books

Blogging Question: What is your favorite thing about blogging?

My favorite thing about blogging is meeting and getting to know other bloggers (either in real life or just online).  I’ve met so many awesome people since I’ve started my blog and developed some good friendships.  I love bonding with people over books.

Back to School Reading: Which books would you like to see in today’s high school Literature classrooms?

Before I list any books I just want to say that one of the things I disliked most about my literature classes in school was that we only read “classic” books and while they are classic for a reason they are not always relevant in todays society. I definitely don’t think we should stop reading “classics” but I think there needs to be a mix of current and classic books.

Two books that I think should be read in high school are Perks of Being a Wallflower and The Help (but please don’t stop reading To Kill a Mockingbird)

Blog Hop: Never Read

Blog Hop, Meme 14

What is the one genre you will NEVER read?

I hesitate to use the word “never” because never is a long time and reading tastes do change.  I don’t know if this qualifies as a genre on it’s own (it’s probably more of a sub genre) but I don’t do zombies.  At all.  But if you’re looking for a more traditional genre I would have to go with poetry.

Blog Hop: Reading Rut & TGIF: Unexpected

Blog Hop, TGIF 27

Who is your go-to author when you are in a reading rut?

I have two different authors that I will go back to if I’m in a funk.  JK Rowling and Sophie Kinsella.  I never, ever get tired of Harry Potter and Sophie Kinsella’s books are always good for a laugh.

Unexpected Books: Which books did you have reservations about reading, but ended up loving once you did?

Suzanne Collins The Hunger GamesI didn’t expect to actually like The Hunger Games.  In fact, the only reason I even read it was to prove to my friend Kate that I wouldn’t like it.  And that totally backfired on me!

Blog Hop: Viral Books & TGIF: Olympics

Blog Hop, Meme, TGIF 30

When a book goes “viral” (Hunger Games, Fifty Shades, Twilight), do you rush out to read it like everyone else, even if it’s not in your typical genre?

It really depends for me.  I’m a fairly eclectic reader so unless it’s non fiction or sci-fi it’s probably a genre I’ll read.  I did read Fifty Shades and there is no way I would have if it hadn’t gone “viral”, but I can be contrary about “viral” books.  I didn’t read Twilight until after the New Moon movie came out (which ironically was my least favorite book).  I guess it kind of depends on my mood.

Book Olympics, which books would you give the gold, silver and bronze medals to?  It can be from any genre, new or old.

I chose to pick from books that I’ve read this year.

Gold: Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry
Silver: The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
Bronze: Divergent by Veronica Roth

It was a close call between the gold and silver.

TGIF: Christmas in July & Blog Hop: Question

Blog Hop, Meme, TGIF 10

PhotobucketTGIF is a weekly meme to re-cap the week’s posts & to propose a question for our followers. It is run by Ginger at GReads.

Christmas in July: If Santa were to come down your chimney in the middle of summer, which books would you want him to leave for you under the tree?

I don’t have too many books that I desperately want right now.  But if there was anyway I could get my hands on Requiem by Lauren Oliver.  I am eagerly anticipating the release of Girl of Nightmares by Kendare Blake and Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry, but I’ve read both of those already.

Blogging Question: What is one thing that your blog readers probably do not know about you?

I have a crazy obsession with football.  It’s the one thing other than books that takes up a large portion of my free time.  September-January my Sundays and Mondays are filled with football.  And I take football VERY SERIOUSLY.  Quite often my mood on Monday is defined by what happens on Sunday.

TGIF: Throwback & Blog Hop: Hyped Book

Blog Hop, Meme, TGIF 24

TGIFTGIF is a weekly meme to re-cap the week’s posts & to propose a question for our followers. It is run by Ginger at GReads.

Throwback TGIF: Pick a previous question you posted on your blog in the past & revisit your answer. Has it changed since then?

I decided to revisit Love Stories: What are some of your favorite fictional love stories?

My original answer was:

My favorite classic romance is Romeo and Juliet. Ever since 9th grade English I have been in love with them.

My new favorite romance is Four and Tris (Divergent, Veronica Roth). I couldn’t help but fall in love with them.

My old school favorite romance from back in the day is Jane and Cal (Nobody’s Baby But Mine, Susan Elizabeth Phillips). Their romance was so sweet and funny.

Of course my classic romance and old school romance are still the same, but I just finished Pushing the Limits, and Echo and Noah push Four and Tris out of the new favorite romance category.  Echo and Noah are just… sigh.

What’s the ONE super-hyped book you’ll NEVER read?

Ok a few days ago I would have said Cinder by Marissa Meyer.  Even though it’s gotten rave reviews I just have no interest in reading it, but I made a deal with Andrea at The Overstuffed Bookcase to read it if she reads Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry, so now I’ll be reading it.

Since I can’t pick Cinder I’ll have to go with Shatter Me.

Blog Hop: Reading & FF: Starting Out

Blog Hop, Meme 23

Book Blogger Hop

Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Jen at Crazy-For-Books.

How long does it take you to read a book?

I am a very fast reader.  Depending on what type of book it is, the style of writing and number of pages I can read a book in a few hours.  Depending on time and other commitments it usually takes me 2-3 days to finish a book (I often read 2 at a time).

Sometimes it’s great to be able to read fast because I can quickly get ahead (and it was great for reading in school) but when I am really enjoying a book and want to take my time reading it I have a very hard time slowing down.

What drove you to start book blogging in the first place?

My IRL friend Kate (Midnight Book Girl) kept talking about this readathon and I wasn’t going to do it, but I had nothing going on that weekend so I decided to participate.  Kate said it was more fun with a blog so I jumped on Blogger and started a blog.  At first I wasn’t going to keep doing it, but when I discovered all this other bookish stuff that I had no idea existed I decided to keep doing it!

Blog Hop: Keeper Shelf, FF: Birthday Wish & TGIF: Best Read

Blog Hop, Feature and Follow, Meme, TGIF 32

Book Blogger Hop

Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Jen at Crazy-For-Books.

Do you have a keeper shelf for books you loved? What books are on that shelf and why?

I do not have a keeper shelf… at this time.  I will have a keeper shelf in September.  At this point other than my HP books and my signed books I don’t know what else will be on it.  I don’t even know how many books will fit, or how much of the space in the cabinet I will use.  I haven’t thought that far ahead yet.  (Note: I am FULLY COMMITED to doing this, but it may require some follow up in September, as I am very OCD about my books and the fact that they will not all be together will probably bother me. A lot)

Birthday Wishes: Blow out the candles and imagine what character could pop out of your cake, who is it and what book are they from.

I’m going to have to go with Kaleb from Timepiece by Myra McEntire.  I liked him in Hourglass, but I loved him in Timepiece.  I like his bad boy nature, how much he cares, and all the crazy thoughts he has in his head!

Best I’ve Read So Far: We’re half way through the year (crazy how time flies!), which top 3 books are the best you’ve read so far this year?

Only 3?  Seriously?  I can’t just pick 3!!!  I’ve read some really great books this year.

Here are my favorite three:
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
Divergent by Veronica Roth
Timepiece by Myra McEntire

But I also could have picked:
Ten by Gretchen McNeil
Girl of Nightmares by Kendare Blake
I’ve Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella

Blog Hop: Writing Reviews & FF: Unread a Book

Blog Hop, Feature and Follow, Meme 27

Book Blogger Hop

Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Jen at Crazy-For-Books.  I met Jen at BEA and she’s seriously awesome!

Blogging Question: Do you immediately write a review upon finishing a book or do you wait and write multiple reviews at once?

I try to write them within a day or two of finish the book, a week at the most.  I try to take notes but if I’m really into a book I tend to forget to take a minute to note stuff down so if I don’t write the review write away I will forget things.  If I know I don’t have a lot of time I will at least start a post and just write little short phrases to help me remember stuff when I do have time to write the review.

Feature & Follow is hosted by Parajunkee’s View and Alison Can Read. Every week they feature a new blogger and ask a question.  Learn more about Feature & Follow.

Q: If you could “unread” a book, which one would it be? Is it because you want to start over and experience it again for the first time? Or because it was THAT bad?

Today’s features: Head Stuck in a Book and Books and Blossoms.

imageSeveral months ago I read Sweet Valley Confidential: Ten Years Later.  I LOVED Sweet Valley High growing up.  I read all the books and I imagined that when I started high school it would be just like Sweet Valley High (note: this turned out to not be true).  I was pretty excited when I saw this book was coming out because it gave me a chance to relive a childhood favorite and catch up with the gang.

Sweet Valley Confidential was flat out awful!  I wished I never had read it because it ruined a childhood favorite.  And just so that y’all don’t think I’m crazy it has a Goodreads rating of 2.28.
